This annual Naples tradition marks
the end to the busy winter season and the start of summer fun, and is
probably Naples' best-loved spectator sport. Canoe contestants vie in a
variety of races. Each year, The Great Dock Canoe Race selects a Theme
for the Race. The "Best Dressed Theme Canoe Competition" is judged upon
(amongst other things) most creative interpretation of the theme, and
this year's theme is "Animal House." The races start at The Dock at
Crayton Cove. The race lanes are located west of the markers. The path
runs parallel to the City Dock, then through the small cove facing
Naples Yacht Club, then north to the Riverwalk at Tin City, which is the
halfway point. The return trip is the same course in reverse.
